Towards the end of last year, we saw Feder drop his awesome new single “Control” which featured Bryce Vine and Dan Caplen, and it has exploded on Spotify, gaining over 6 million Spotify streams. We are excited to see what he releases next in 2019.
Feder, real name Hadrien Federiconi, is an internationally-known DJ who is perhaps best known for his successful debut single “Goodbye” which features Lyse as it topped the charts in his home country of France as well as Belgium, Hungary, Poland, and Switzerland. The release of the song, which currently has amassed 89 million Spotify streams, has launched his success with some brilliant collaborations and unforgettable career moments. With more music to come, Feder is certainly one of the DJs to watch.
We were honoured to get the chance to interview this French DJ, Feder. We chatted about his new single “Control”, what it was like to work with Bryce Vine and Dan Caplen, and his career so far.
Hi Feder, how are you today? What have you been up to recently?
I’m great! I was recently able to work on different urban projects as well as a potential movie soundtrack project.
Your latest single release is “Control”, can you tell us more about it?
It’s a track that I have composed a bit more than a year ago, but I wanted to take the time to find the best singer collaboration. Bryce [Vine] and Dan [Caplen] were perfect because they were a mix of urban and pop music.
What were Bryce Vine and Dan Caplen like to work with?
They are very professional and full of energy. I’ve shared a lot with Bryce Vine who is open to many different music genres, that’s what makes him such an interesting person.
How would you describe “Control”?
“Control” is a ball of energy. It’s a song to get ready, to party, to dance, laugh and remember about good memories.
How does it differ from your previous releases?
It gets closer to a low tempo. Right now, I’m really into 100/110 tempos. I have a lot of fun trying to put dynamism into less club-oriented tempos.
A music video for the song was released, what was that like to film?
It was a great experience! I’m not an actor but it was a pleasure to act like a dance judge for this video.
Can you tell us what the music video is about?
The intention was to reproduce something close to Fight Club connected with dance. People were to gather in a shed and had to dance until exhaustion. I had the chance to meet some amazing dancers and actors during this shooting. I will remember it as a great moment.
It was directed by Giant, and Julien Veron acted as Director of Photography, what were they like to work with?
The artistic vision of this guy is very recognizable. He’s got a personal touch that I really like.
Now, let’s talk about your career to date, your debut single “Goodbye” is still your biggest song, with over 88 million Spotify streams and it hit number one in your home country, France, as well as Belgium, Hungary, Poland, and Switzerland. How did it feel seeing your debut track perform so well?
At that time, I actually wanted to quit music, but I thought, why not go for it and release the track. The breakout was tremendous and I still remember having my friends and family around every time good news came in.
It featured Lyse, what was she like to work with and would you work with her again?
This girl has an incredible voice. She wasn’t originally a singer and didn’t even know the potential she had. I would definitely love to work on a track with her again.
How has your music evolved over the years from your debut single to now?
I’ve learned a lot in terms of production techniques. I’m looking to put less material but more powerful ones. “Control” is the representation of that – it has a lighter production than most of the tunes I worked on.
Has it been difficult following that success with your subsequent releases?
I was lucky enough to avoid the writer’s block after “Goodbye” because I had other tracks ready like “Lordly” to go on. I didn’t know if it would be a success or not, but there was already an instrumental version on my Soundcloud which was very much appreciated.
Speaking of “Lordly”, the single is our favourite track of yours, as we’ve been following Alex Aiono for years. It is also your second most-streamed track on Spotify. What was it like to work with Alex Aiono?
This guy is a machine. Very young but already very professional, and focused on his career. I enjoyed working with him because he had a very efficient approach and straight to the point.
Who would you like to work with, in the future?
Rap artists and maybe a director for a filmed project.
What can we expect from you in 2019?
Some singles as always but also an EP and the development of a label/publisher.
And, finally, do you have a message for your fans?
The love I receive from them is what makes me keep doing and loving what I do every day. I want to tell them to never stop sending me support messages for it’s my motivation fuel.
