Who could forget the chapter of the 2010s that included Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s marriage? It may have been brief (14 months), but its imprint on pop culture is bone-deep.

In a recent interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Perry described her and Brand’s 2011 split as “the first kind of breaking of my idealistic mind.”

"I was having great success at 23, 24 and 25 and then I met someone that was interesting and stimulating. It was just like a tornado, it was everything happening at once," she explained.

“I’ve always really resonated with friction, and resistance, and challenges,” Perry continued, “and I know that inherently it’s going to take a lot of work but we’re going to get somewhere great, or it’s going to be a beautiful diamond. All this pressure is going to turn into a beautiful diamond.”

The singer has come along way since her divorce, which she told Vogue was initiated by Brand via text on New Year’s Eve. Perry and fiancé Orlando Bloom announced the birth of their daughter, Daisy Dove, just last week.

“It is a healthy, frictional, very open, very communicative, nothing is swept under the mat, type of relationship,” Perry told 60 Minutes in regard to herself and Bloom. “It's like, we should probably walk into the other room to discuss something where we disagree because we'll just do it in public," she continued. "But I think if we can get to the ends of our lives together, we'll be each other's greatest teachers.”
